Mason Lyon

My name is Mason Lyon. I'm 20 years of age currently living in Perth, Australia. I am in my second year at Curtin University studying marketing and management under a Bachelor of Commerce. People often ask me "Mason why are you studying commerce? That's not what you want to do". 

 

This is an interesting misconception regarding commerce as it is often tied to a simple office job however, I've always had different ideas. I am highly motivated to pursue a career in online fashion marketing, as my heart belongs with fashion.

From a young age I have been heavily invested with cultural impact of fashion, which has seen me travel to many countries, exploring the fashion culture and what fashion means to the rest of the world outside of Perth. In my opinion, Japan by far has the most complex fashion scene, however, Japanese values are quite similar across subcultures. Japanese love the craftsmanship of garments evident in Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo's design. My style is somewhat reflective of these two designers as I love experimenting with monochromatic tones and comfortable silhouettes.

Throughout my involvement with fashion, I have developed a motivation to help this harmful industry turn toward sustainable practices. The Fashion industry is one of the most pollutant industries in the world and this has to change now.
